Scented votive candles can be added to any room in the house to relieve stress, tension and to set a romantic or sensual feel to the home.  Therefore, you may want to add votive candles to your bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining room and living room, but you may not have the money to do so.  Just put together your resources and your time, and you can create one of the easiest types of candles to make.

Your Materials

You will need to gather a few materials before you begin votive candle making:

·         Wax for votive candles

·         Pretabbed wax for Votive Candles

·         Metal molds for votive candles

·         Thermometer

·         Melting Pot.

Other materials that you may want to use but that are not necessary are wax additives, dyes, fragrances and a mold release spray.

Melting the Wax

Your first step is to set up a double boiler with the thermometer reading 175 degrees Fahrenheit.  The wax will burn safely at this temperature.  Once the wax has melted you can add in the wax additives, the fragrance and the dye (in that order) by stirring them all together without adding air to the mixture.

First Pouring

You can set up your molds by sparring them with the mold release spray if so desired.  Fill up the molds by pouring the wax into them until the top of the mold without spilling over.

Adding the Wick

As the candle cools, straighten out the wicks as best you can.  Insert the pre-tabbed wicks into the center of the candle as best as possible as it congeals.  This will prevent the wick from moving out of place.  The metal base will bond to the bottom of the candle.

Second Pouring

Let the candle cool off completely and harden.  This may take about 3-4 hours to do so.  Once this is done, you will have to reheat the leftover wax to 190 degrees Fahrenheit so that the layers stick together.  You must pour a second layer onto the first since the wax has compressed while cooling, shrinking it.  Fill the votive candle up to the top without spilling over the top.   Once the candle has cooled and hardened completely, just slide out the votive candle.  If they do not come out, place them in the freezer for a few minutes and this will help to slide them out.

The only thing left to do is place the votive candle into a candle holder and enjoying your newly made and custom votive candle.
